Community Needs and Ongoing Programs
  • The Lee County Veterans Council encourages all veterans to carry a copy of their military discharge papers (DD214) to the Register of Deeds at the Lee County Court House. They have a secure vault to store the forms.
  • The Moore County Farmer’s Market is open Thursdays year-round at the Armory Sports Complex on West Morganton Road in Southern Pines. For more info call 910-947-3752 or 910-690-9520.
  • The Christian United Outreach Center of Lee County’s purpose is to provide basic needs of food, clothing, or spiritual guidance as may be appropriate during crisis situations. Services include a food pantry, thrift shop, financial assistance for utilities and more, loaning of medical equipment, and pastoral care. You can help them by contributing financially or in kind.   • The Moore Free and Charitable Clinic seeks to create a healthy community through a collaborative effort with the purpose of providing health equity for the uninsured. They are always in need of volunteers, both administrative and providers. They also have a wish list of needed medical supplies.   • The Moore Humane Society is a private, nonprofit rescue organization and the only privately funded, state licensed “no-kill” animal shelter in Moore County. They are always in need of volunteers and donations. Learn more at moorehumane.org.
  • The BreadBasket of Sanford’s mission is to provide a free hot meal to those individuals who cannot afford one and who otherwise would go hungry if these meals were not provided. The BreadBasket is in need of volunteers and financial donations. Learn more at breadbasketofsanford.org.
  • The North Carolina Symphony continues to post new Music Education videos each week, to support North Carolina’s students who are learning at home. Teachers and parents–take your kids on a virtual “field trip” to the North Carolina Symphony! To help students to keep music education in their lives at home, the Symphony has released a virtual broadcast of their Education Concert and companion Student Book. Go on a virtual journey to learn “What Makes Music, Music,” as the Symphony performs music by William Grant Still, Beethoven, Brahms, and more!   • United Way of Lee County has established the “Community COVID-19 Response Fund” to provide assistance to families in Lee and Harnett Counties with immediate and long-term needs. Visit LeeCountyUnitedWay.org to learn more or to donate.
  • The Southern Pines Public Library’s 24/7 Library Kiosk contains books and DVDs available for checkout with a library card and PIN. These materials are not being recirculated and are safe to check out at this time.
