Pruning Workshop

The Sandhills Horticultural Society will host a Pruning Workshop conducted by Moore County Extension Agent Taylor Williams. Learn pruning basics and see a hands-on demonstration. The workshop will be from 10AM until Noon, Saturday, January 20 at the Sandhills Horticultural Gardens Ball Visitors Center in Pinehurst. Nature Hike

Weymouth Woods (Sandhills Nature Preserve) located at 1024 Fort Bragg Road will host a nature hike on Sunday, January 28 at 3 pm. The theme is staying warm in winter. Don’t let winter weather keep you inside! Keep a good pace on this 2-mile hike so you stay warm. Learn how our native animals beat the cold during this chilly time of year. Saint Joseph of the Pines is distributing winter clothing to the homeless at The Potter’s Café in Aberdeen. The address is 201 West South Street, which is located across the street from the post office. Winter clothing, for children and adults, as well as blankets will be given from 10 am to 4 pm on Monday and Tuesday, February 5th and 6th. For more information, please call 910-246-3125.

Hobbyist Beekeeper Course

In an effort to increase the number of beekeepers, the Moore County Chapter of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association (NCSBA) is offering a school designed to provide the knowledge and experience for a person to become an established hobbyist beekeeper. On Sunday, February 25 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the Southern Pines Public Library meet Johanna Schubert, a current Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Scholar and cognitive-behavioral therapist. She will speak about her cultural and professional background working with organizations such as Red Cross and the United Nations to reduce PTSD for humanitarian aid workers in international conflict zones and how her current studies will influence world peace and reconciliation.
